As if they had duplicated, or just being created there.ĥ) So I decided to leave them there and work my files in other folders. Two times after I was using the HD the folders appeared again outside of the folder I had put them. Seemed related to TM or to Apple, so I decided to put them in an folder so they wouldn't mess up the HD nor bothered me. 3) I tried deleting them manually, I was able to work on my HD two times again, before the computers (Mac and DELL) didn't recognize it anymore and asked the HD be formatted.Ĥ)I looked the files up. _.Trashes, whenever I opened the HD in my DELL.

I found in both occasions 3 folders and a file that didn't delete. 2) So I formated it again with the exFAT format. I deleted the Time Machine back up by first deleting the back ups from inside TM and then by moving the folder to the trashcan.ġ) I formated the LaCie initially with a FAT format, only to realize that I couldn't pass big files like iPhoto libraries. Recently I passed my old files (not in TM) to another Hard Drive, and decided to delete the Time Machine Back Up, to make space in my LaCie HD, and to be able to format it with an exFAT format so that I can open my files both on Windows and Apple. I had both old files in it and a Time Machine (TM) back up for my Mac Book Pro 2011. I have a LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt HD of 1 TB. I'll explained in more detailed what happened, and what the issue I think is related to. Recently I deleted the Time Machine back up that I had in my external hard drive, to format it for both Mac and Windows, and after I've used the HD twice (plugged it twice and unplug it) it keeps asking to be formatted (Both on my Mac and on my DELL), as if it is a new HD. Hard Drive keeps deleting new files, and ask for formatting after I deleted Time Machine BackUp Hi everyone, Thank you in advance to anyone who replies, and please, if you're going to suggest how to do something do it in as much detail and dumb it down for me as best you can. Is it possible to restore a Hard Drive to factory settings, or otherwise get to how it was out of the box? Is there anyway to actually format the Hard Drive so it can be used on both my dads Windows laptop and my Macbook? So I thought here might be my next best option.įirst question I have. Going to their website just gets me redirected to random websites. I tried to find support documents for the Hard Drive, but apparently Iomega is no longer around. Frankly whomever wrote the article I stupidly trusted is someone I'd like to drag into the street right about now!īut now I have no idea what to do. I then plugged it into my Macbook only to discover it no longer recognizes the device at all. So I started the tedious work of transferring files little by little until it was full.

So I am really confused how files which came off of it initially took up less than 250GB, and now it's saying they about 1400GB. Initially the files took up less than half the storage space on the Hard Drive (which I believe is 500GB), however, when I transferred them back it said I could not because there was not enough room, I need almost 900GB more! I thought WTF, how did the storage space shrink?! But when I view the property info for the Hard Drive, which is now empty, it shows a 465GB capacity. The following morning it was all set to go, so I took the folder I had removed from it and sent it back to the Hard Drive. So I started the reformatting process which literally took all night. I decided to go with EXFAT which it said can work with larger files, unlike FAT. The article presented two formatting options, FAT and EXFAT, with pros and cons for each. After several hours of waiting for everything to transfer, I started the reformatting process. this is exactly what I was looking for!įrom there I plugged it into my old Windows laptop, which I had given to my dad, made a new folder on the Hard Drive, stuffed everything else into it and sent the folder to the desktop. So not only couldn't I edit anything without first copying to my Macbook, but I couldn't delete anything off it either or add anything from my Macbook.Īs usual I attempted to fix the issue myself and about crashed Google in the process LOL I found an article on how to reformat so that it would, "work seamlessly with MAC and PC". Unfortunately, for whatever reason, everything on it was "Read Only". Since then I decided to try to clean it up because it has many files which are no longer needed. I recently got it out to retrieve a document I needed, plugged it into my Macbook and all was fine. Several years ago I purchased an Iomega USB 2.0 Desktop Hard Drive (model LDHD-UP), at which time I had a Windows PC, so it was formatted using the NTFS default file system.
